Even Royalty Loves Wii!
I may sound like a tabloid journalist reporting some hyped-up news release but I just can’t pass up the opportunity to write about celebrities and consoles in a single article. Especially if the console we’re talking about is our very own Wii and the celebrity… well… is non other than the Queen of England herself!
The Q-Wii-n of Gaming
The story goes a little something like this:
I don’t know if royalty also took part in the Wii Raincheck program, but well, let’s just say that Prince William successfully got himself a Wii console courtesy of his girlfriend Kate Middleton. As happy as he was receiving such a wonderful gift for Christmas, I guess he never really thought that his grandma, Queen Elizabeth II, will love to have a crack at the Wii console too.
Quoting from the original article at people.co.uk:
“When she saw William playing a game after lunch at Sandringham she thought the Nintendo looked tremendous fun and begged to join in.”
“She played a simple ten-pin bowling game and by all accounts was a natural.”
“It was hilarious. William was in fits of laughter. He was enormously impressed at having such a cool gran.”
“And although she is 81 the Queen’s hand-eye co-ordination was as good as somebody half her age.”
Well, grandmas playing Wiis may seem to be old news, but hey, the Queen isn’t your ordinary everyday grandma right?
And What Exactly Does This Prove?
The Nintendo Wii claims to be a casual gaming system that can cater to the majority of people that simply love to play games. This bit of news is a testimony of how generally appealing the Wii console really is. And this clearly proves that for the young and the young at heart (and for Queens and commoners alike), the Wii gaming system does one hell of a good job in effectively bringing fun back to the table.
