Do You Want to Know a Secret?

Is a Guitar Hero: Beatles Edition a possibility? Oh please lord - LET IT BE!
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a little older than your average Guitar Hero junkie, but my fingers are already twitching at the thought of this game. Surprisingly, I did not feel the same about the Aerosmith edition. My 11-year-old niece was just telling me the other day about a great new group she had on her iPod and I could not help but laugh when she told me it was the Beatles. With the much-rumored imminent release of the Beatles catalog to iTunes and a bunch of idol-wannabes belting out their songs, one cannot help but believe the Beatles are enjoying a bit of a comeback. Of course, I’m one of those immaculate lawn owners that never really saw them fade from my regular rotation at any point, but it’s still exciting to see.
The Los Angeles Times has recently reported that Martin N. Bandier, the big man at the publishing company that owns a majority of The Beatles catalog, likes the idea of a dedicated Beatles edition of Guitar Hero. Perhaps the upcoming Guitar Hero: Aerosmith made Mr. Bandier realize that a Beatles version would practically be a license to print money. With over 30 million people tuning into American Idol and the millions upon millions of iTunes users patiently waiting for The Beatles’ debut, now is the perfect time to announce a Guitar Hero: Beatles Edition. You don’t need to be a dirty hippie or even a marketing guru to see the success this game would likely enjoy.
Of course, one might argue that these band-focused games are short-sighted and perhaps the franchise might be better suited to come out with ‘themes’ as opposed to ‘band focused’ affairs. Perhaps the Beatles would be part of a ‘British Invasion’ game, with other possibilities being games by decades or genres like ‘funk’ or ‘glam rock’ - you get the idea. I will reluctantly admit that this is likely the smart choice, just give me my Beatles edition first! In the words of the Fab Four themselves, don’t let me down…
