Rumor: Tecmo to bring the Tecmo Bowl franchise to Nintendo systems

authorMike Suszek | April 10, 2008

Tecmo Super BowlRumor-digging Quarterman in the May 2008 issue of EGM spread word that Tecmo is bringing back the beloved Tecmo Bowl series, straight to the Wii and DS. It seems that the DS version will be a retro take on the series, whereas the Wii version will be “an updated outing developed here in the States.”

The idea of an “updated” version hitting the Wii can be a cause of concern. I don’t want my Tecmo Bowl hanging around those Madden-types. Too much trouble.

If it’s true: We can look forward to, hopefully, a fresh look at modern football games. If Tecmo stays true to the series, we should see those exciting cut-scenes when you pick off a Rex Grossman pass and run it back for a touchdown. It would be “enlightening” to see artistic look at the game, maybe some 2D-to-3D perspective flipping like in Super Paper Mario?  Or maybe a left-to-right look like the Fifa series.

If it’s false: Come on, it just can’t be. Any sane person would settle for an updated WiiWare title, and that could spell “graphically enhanced 2D” football. Doesn’t that sound great?

Updates to come.

Telltale Games announces Strong Bad title for WiiWare

Strongbad

Write the date down, because nerdular history has been made.  Telltale Games, the wonderful people behind the episodic Sam & Max games, announced today that they are working on episodic “Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People” game series, due for WiiWare in June.

The series, taking place in the Homestar Runner universe, will be five episodes long, released on a monthly basis.  No word on pricing yet.

Visit Telltale to see the full press release.

I’m currently placing bets that the first episode will have an appearance by Trogdor.  It has to happen.

Japan gets a “new” GC Controller for the Wii.

It seems like Japan always gets everything first, and while this may not always be the case, it sure is this time.

Today, Nintendo of Japan re-released a new, pearly white, GameCube controller. The Japanese text to the right states that the cable for the controller will be 3 meters long, which is a tiny bit longer than earlier iterations. With the GameCube already dead, it is clear to us that the newly launched controller isn’t trying to resurrect the GameCube, but giving Wii owners a chance to buy this controller to use with their Wii (Brawl anyone?). We all know how uncomfortable that Classic controller is, so this is good news for those of you who sold or threw away your old GameCube controllers.

While it is only out in Japan right now, we can only hope that the controller will make it to other countries sometime soon. But if you cannot wait, you can fly over to Japan and pick one up yourself for a retail price of 2000 yen (about 20 U.S. dollars).

I choose you… Mike-achu?

Hello fellow Nintendo lovers! Mike Suszek here, with my first post to kick things off here at My Wii News. I am definitely looking forward to posting any news stories I can dig up to serve you like a fine entree at a five-star restaurant. A video game restaurant.

A little bit about myself:

I am a 3rd-year Journalism major, full-time video game fanatic, and full-time boyfriend to my fellow gaming girlfriend of 4 years.

When I’m not in classes playing DS, I’m usually at home, playing DS; but I can sometimes be found on my personal blog, www.game-genius.net.

I am hoping to prove that my experience here will only help me break into the gaming journalism industry, or at least break into something, like a car, or a bike lock. You’ve gotta set the bar low, I say.

Cheers,

-Mike
