Destineer Announces “Summer Sports: Paradise Island” for the Wii™ System.

Does winter make you yearn for a Tropical getaway? The developer Destineer has recently announced “Summer Sports: Paradise Island,” which will turn your Wii into a luxurious island resort! Well, perhaps minus the open bar and associated opportunities for a one-night-stand. Then again - no passport required and the airfare is sure to be more affordable. Gamers will be able to check into the Paradise Island Resort and explore a vast array of recreational activities in this lush tropical environment – all with intuitive Wii remote! I for one am not 100% sure I am down with this one but I put it squarely on the ‘maybe’ list. Sadly I think both Croquet and Horseshoes would be my games of choice. Honey - start the blender! Here are the features, as reported by the company:

Seven Addictive Games: Challenge your friends to seven different Summer Sports: Basketball, Croquet, Lawn Darts, Badminton, Volleyball, Horse Shoes, and nine uniquely-themed Mini-Golf holes. Basketball even features two distinct courts and three game types: Shot Clock, Around the World, and HORSE.

Intuitive Wii Remote Controls: Summer Sports captures the authentic actions and motions of each sport. With distinct motions for bumps, sets and spikes in Volleyball; forehand and backhand swings in Badminton; and a completely unique Wii Remote gesture for Basketball, Summer Sports is deeper than other sports compilations, yet every bit as accessible.

Island Living: Paradise Island is the ideal vacation destination, complete with the most visually pleasing environments unmatched in the genre. Every aspect of the game, from the loading screens to the characters themselves, is designed to immerse the players in the world of Paradise Island.

Multiplayer: Up to four players can compete in multiplayer action. Play competitively or cooperatively with friends, experience both one-on-one and team-based games, and AI opponents of three different difficulty levels.

Exciting Additional Features: Taunt your opponents with distracting noises, earn Accolades by accomplishing specific tasks during a game, and learn the definition of “squawker” in Lawn Darts!

Summer Sports: Paradise Island is scheduled for release in March of 2008. Enjoy your stay and see you on the beach!

A collection of Nintendo related costumes lovingly assembled by your friends at My Wii News … the good, the bad and the ugly.

If imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery then the folks over at Nintendo must be downright red-faced with embarrassment. Fresh off our pictorials on NINTENDO WEDDINGS and NINTENDO TATTOOS, we take a look at some of the best (and worst) Nintendo costumes. On with the show … Enjoy!

Let’s start ‘old school’ again …

Cos1

the ‘A’ button seems okay but you don’t want to push ‘HOME’ too much …

Cos16

Cos13

I think this is cool?

Why are you so scared ladies?

I’m speechless … AWESOME!

Cos17

Dark Link … someone has TOO much time on their hands …

Cos18

Lil’ Link

Cos9

Do you know the Dark Link above by chance?

Cos5

Oh no! Gawd — why?!! (Good costume actually … I just had flashbacks of the game)

Cos19

Another geek, erm link-in-training …

Cos6

and finally, the one that will wake you up in the middle-of-the-night in a cold sweat …

Cos12

Ta-da! I certainly hoped you enjoyed our little show. Come back anytime for all your Nitendo and Wii related action. Oh, and hey — tell your friends! Happy playing and Wii will see you soon.

Nintendo Tattoos

authorCanucklehead | January 10, 2008

Well, while our servers are still reeling from the onslaught of people checking out our recent Nintendo-themed weddings. The time seemed right to address the die-hard fans, while marriage is increasingly temporary - tattoos are still pretty permanent. So, without further ado - here are a collection of the best Nintendo tattoos we could find. Once again, if you want to submit any to the collection - well give us a shout!

My fave is for sure the last one above - lotsa LOVE for the glove! To all the tattoo artists out there, you are gonna want to make sure next time that a customer comes in and tells you that they want ‘to get ink done’ that they haven’t really said that they want ‘to get Link done’. Happy playing Nintendo fans and all the best!

When Geeks Collide …

authorCanucklehead | January 8, 2008

Nintendo themed weddings? There are two sayings that come to mind:

1) There is someone out there for everyone.

2) Geeks need love too.

So, for all of you sitting in your parents basement, all flabby, pale and generally sickly looking - there is hope. Enjoy these wonderful Nintendo themed wedding all lovingly collected by your friends at My Wii News. Yes, there is more out there and I have tried to collect only the creme-de-la-creme, if such a term can be used to describe these photos. Anyways, if you find any other good ones - send them along and we will happily add them to the collection.

AND FINALLY - WILL YOU MARRY MII?

So there you are. Well, I may be a little biased - I cannot help but think how cool some of these are! Then again, you know someone at this moment is saying the very same think about the upcoming Star Trek themed wedding - so to each their own. Nintendo - catch the fever!

Dive in to the Endless Ocean

Endless Ocean Cover

Endless Ocean is a diving simulation game, allowing players to float their way through the pristine waters of fictional Manoa Lai Island. With no time limits, point systems or possibility of failure, it’s a pick-up-and-play ‘game’ for the entire family to enjoy.

eo2

As mentioned in our top 10 games of 2008 list, this underwater exploration game is scheduled to be released at the end on January. The game has already been released and well recieved in Europe, as well as Japan where it is known simply as ‘Forever Blue ‘. Starting out on a boat in the middle of ocean, the game sees you playing as a diver researching aquatic life by swimming alongside fish, offering them bait and taking photographs. Using the Wii Remote, you guide your diver through increasingly deep waters, discovering strange and more beautiful sea creatures.

eo1

For players really looking to kick back and relax Endless Ocean features several soothing modes. One can simply chill out on the deck of the boat is a deckchair that allows the player to sit and watch the sea. Alternately, players can select fish they have seen and add them in an aquarium for a closer inspection. While little is known, one of the screenshots below clearly illustates a dolphin in the act of being trained to preform tricks. This game even doubles up as a tranquil screensaver if the Wii Remote is left untouched and the relaxed setting of the game itlself is further heightened with a tranquil soundtrack from new-age artist Hayley Westenra.

If players prefer to dive with a buddy, the Wii’s unique Nintendo WiFi Connection Service allows players link up with their friends. In co-op mode friends have access to all the tools that can be used in single player mode, as well as an additional mode of communication. With a fish logbook to complete, items to be salvaged and collected and the ability to listen to your own music while you dive, Endless Ocean is sure to provide hours of entertainment.

While there is little doubt that Endless Ocean will not appeal to all gamers, a loyal fanbase is sure to be established here, as it has already in Japan and Europe. While Endless Ocean may blur the boundaries between ‘game’ and ‘experience’, it sounds like there could be far worse ways to spend a cold Sunday - or perhaps all of them. Happy diving!
