Like Your Wii Wheel? Pay 50% More at Gamestop!
Searching for “wii wheel” online, you’ll find mixed reactions. Some tack on values of practicality by talking about Nintendo trying to sell us hunks of plastic (which is obviously ironic when talking practicality and video games). Others speak praise of this little round shell that lets us play Mario Kart Wii better than the next guy.
Picking up this splendid game yesterday, I decided it would be a great idea to pick up another wheel right away for my girlfriend (we wound up buying a third later today, loving it). I made use of the trade-two, get Mario Kart Wii for $10 deal happening by ditching Madden 08 and RE4. In total, I spent $22, including tax.
Doing a little shopping out of town, we happened by a Gamestop (more like I whined until we went) and headed in for our third Wii Wheel. Shockingly, it was marked up to $14.99! Why the extra $5? Are they mocking me? So I tried mentioning to the Gamestop employee that this price just wasn’t right. Turns out, it was. He even went as far as to ‘anti-fanboyly’ say, “You know this is just a hunk of plastic, right?” And then try to tell me that ALL Gamestops were selling them at $14.99, even if I bought one for $10 the day before.
Something stinks when one of our favorite game dealers are jacking up prices on accessories for our accessories, when every other dealer offers them for much cheaper. Sure, the Wii Wheel was originally listed at $14.99, but basically everyone has accepted it at $9.99. And regardless, nothing excuses the price discrepancies between actual Gamestop locations.
I’d hope this doesn’t happen often (or at all) to others. Has anyone else experienced such blatant mispricing?
